Propylene Glycol is an ingredient found in a small number of pet foods for dogs. Based on veterinary research, this ingredient has generally considered low-risk but good to know about. Below, we explain what we found and list the products that include it.

Why it's flagged

A synthetic humectant used in semi-moist dog foods to retain moisture and texture. Banned in cat food (damages cat red blood cells) but permitted for dogs as GRAS. Not a safety concern at typical levels, but it is a synthetic additive.
